VIZIANAGARAM: Shocking reports emerge as a minor girl in a Mentada mandal village in Vizianagaram district fell prey to alleged sexual assault by four underage boys over the course of a year.
The incident came to light recently when the victim's grandmother reported it to the authorities following which three of the accused boys were detained. All involved parties are between the age of 15 and 16.
According to the police, the 14-year-old schoolgirl was subjected to threats by the boys, who demanded her compliance with their sexual advances.
The abuse persisted for an entire year. Notably, all the individuals involved reside in the same locality, with one of the boys having initially befriended the victim before resorting to threats and assaults.
The victim's parents had separated a year ago due to family disputes and were residing outside the village. As a result, the girl had been living with her grandmother. It was the grandmother who, upon noticing a significant change in the girl's behavior, decided to inquire about her silence.
Upon learning of the distressing situation, village leaders intervened and confronted the parents of the accused boys. However, rather than addressing the issue, the family members of the accused boys engaged in confrontations with the village leaders. Subsequently, the girl filed an official complaint with the Andra Police station a few days ago.
Bobbili DSP P Sridhar ensured that the victim underwent necessary medical tests, while Gajapatinagaram Circle Inspector Appalanaidu confirmed the registration of a Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case against the four minor boys. Three of the accused have been apprehended and placed in juvenile detention.
